Arsenal put the emphasis on youth in summer of change

The summertime overhaul of arsenal reasoned with Henrikh Mkhitaryan completing a season-long loan move on the final day of the European transfer window to Roma.
The Armenian became one of 25 players to depart the Emirates Stadium either or permanently through the summer, and it’s a movement which sums up the fresh approach to squad-building of the club.
By moving to the 30-year-old Mkhitaryan, Arsenal lower their wage bill but also free up enjoying opportunities for young academy graduates like Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson.
We take a look at Arsenal have changed the squad’s personnel and profile at the team in a summertime of change.
In the end of May, we asked Sky Sports readers which they would sell ahead of their summer window and that Arsenal players they would keep.
The poll showed 11 players that the fans needed to leave, together with Calum Chambers, Nacho Monreal, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina, Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil all voted out.
Three months , and also seven of these 11 names have indeed departed in a busy summer which has seen a total of over two dozen players leave the team on a permanent or temporary basis. The amount may be higher had Arsenal managed to locate suitors for Mustafi – and openly advised to leave by Emery – and Ozil.
Arsenal were occupied in terms of incomings also, breaking up their transfer record to sign the 72m Nicolas Pepe out of Lille while also paying large amounts for left-back Kieran Tierney and 18-year-old central defender William Saliba, who went directly back into St Etienne on loan to the year.
Pepe has featured prominently in the coming months of the season, providing the aid for Alexandre Lacazette’s goal in Sunday’s north London derby, also while Tierney is still recovering from an injury, there also have been debuts for David Luiz, loanee Dani Ceballos and Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli. The new-look side of emery is taking shape.

The turnover of gamers at the Emirates Stadium has been quick, not just this summer but within the past couple of years. The degree of the change becomes apparent when looking back in Arsenal’s matchday squad because of their 2017 FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea – .
As well as having a manager in the dugout, together using Unai Emery in place of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal have moved on 14 of their 18 players.
The survivors are Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin, Xhaka along with Ozil.
Monreal’s death to Real Sociedad signifies Arsenal’s longest-serving senior player is now Ozil, who joined them at 2013. A move never came to fruition, although the playmaker’s future was in the summertime. And yet, regardless of his expertise, he is still waiting using choices being favoured by Emery.
1 obvious conclusion from Arsenal’s summer is that they have put youth over experience.
In Ospina, Koscielny, Mkhitaryan, Lichtsteiner and Monreal, they have sold or released five players over age 30. Even the 32-year-old David Luiz did arrive in Chelsea, but the only other players from the squad aged 30 or over are Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Otherwise, the squad has a feel. With the exclusion of Luiz, their summer signings had an average age of 21. There’s also a promising crop of academy graduates. While Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe are waiting in line this season has impressed.
After Willock and Nelson began in the weekend of this new season, it had been the first time since February 1998 when Arsenal had named two British teenagers in their starting line-up.
The shift has been just as dramatic behind the scenes. Where once there was a supervisor in Wenger, now is a team set up to look after off-field matters, permitting head coach Emery to focus solely on what happens on the pitch and making Arsenal more effective in the industry.
Raul Sanllehi has overseen the summertime industry in his function as head of soccer, with assistance from main executive Vinai Venkatesham in addition to technical manager Edu. The Brazilian has been made in July after the death of former leader of recruitment Sven Mislintat this season.
The hope now is that Arsenal have the bits in place to keep them going in the right direction for your long term. Their attempts to construct up the side have only just started.
Anticipate change.
