Police are investigating former Germany Christoph Metzelder of distributing child pornography over allegations.
An announcement by the office of the Hamburg attorney general stated the 38-year-old is accused of being sent images in Hamburg via WhatsApp using child content to a receiver.
Hamburg authorities carried out two hunts at Dusseldorf.
Metzelder is believed to have co-operated together with the authorities.
The substance collected from the hunts will now be assessed, and the analysis continues.
Metzelder was a part of the squads for the 2002 and 2006 World Cups and won over 40 caps.
The centre-back assisted Borussia Dortmund acquire the Bundesliga title that was 2001-2002 during a bout with the club before winning La Liga with Real Madrid at the 2007-08 season.
