The organiser of this International Champions Cup has started a legal case against US football authorities – a move that would attract the prospect of Premier League matches being played in the USA closer.
Relevent Sports attempted to organize a La Liga game between Girona and Barcelona but the program was scrapped in the face of widespread opposition.
It subsequently attempted to host an Ecuadorian league match in america about 5 May, but that also was blocked by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), even though Relevent said it had secured a scene for its fixture and had received written approval from both Ecuador’s league and its national institution, in addition to the regional governance body.
In court papers Relevent argues the USSF is currently acting in an anti-competitive manner.
It states the USSF allows the Yearly Super Cup and also the Campeon de Campeones to be performed in California.
These matches are organised by a rival match promoter, Soccer United Marketing (SUM). SUM is owned jointly by the Major League Soccer clubs and has exclusive rights to advertise the USA’s men’s and women’s global teams – its connection with the USSF is presently the subject of legal cases.
No date has been set for the case to be heard.
Relevent also says entire world governing body Fifa stance that no league matches must be performed in other countries is a view, not a law.
Relevant is determined its aim is just to sponsor every season to three or two La Liga games in the US, even though the firm’s magnetic executive chairman Charlie Stillitano has said he would enjoy the opportunity to market Premier League games.
In addition, it has noted that major US sports, specifically Major League Baseball and the NFL , have played with regular season games in England to packed audiences.
The Premier League has said it has no plans. An global round – the 39th game that was so-called – was suggested in 2008 but two years later said the Premier League said that it was no more being considered.
The USSF declined to comment on the present activity of Relevant but called a statement issued when there was a preceding law suit received in April.
In it, it stated:”When Relevent asked to sponsor a competitive league match in Miami between 2 Ecuadorean clubs, his program went through our inspection process for international game endorsement, which we run on the more than a hundred applications we receive annually out of dozens of promoters.
“As part of this review procedure, we reached out to the Ecuadorean Football Federation and also [South American Football Confederation] Conmebol to confirm whether they had been conscious that the proposal involved a competitive league match. As of now, we’ve yet to be given a response for this query.
“At precisely exactly the identical timewe reached out to Fifa and confirmed that the Fifa Council’s October 2018 confirmation stating’the athletic principle that official league matches must be performed over the territory of their respective member association’.”
Luis Manfredi, the chief executive director of this league that was overburdened, employed to work for the Spanish champions and it’s advised by some that present La Liga president Javier Tebas, regarded as the driving force behind the strategy to sponsor a Spanish league game in the united states, is using connections inside the club to test the current regulations.
