Everton raised the pressure on manager Marco Silva having a deserved win over disappointing West Ham United at Goodison Park.
Following four straight Premier League defeats plunged Everton silva is fighting ease doubts – but this was a superb display to make three points.
He made five changes from the side which lost at Burnley and had been rewarded with a piece of individual brilliance from recalled Brazilian Bernard, that tricked his way into the West Ham place before beating keeper Roberto Jimenez using a smart end after 17 minutes to place Everton in his way.
Roberto made while Richarlison hit the woodwork, a succession of nice saves, especially in Tom Davies and Alex Iwobi although everton had opportunities. It was in stoppage time that replacement Gylfi Sigurdsson, fell for the first time since he turned into Evertons record #45m enrolling in summertime 2017, ended any doubts about the results with a magnificent 25-yard rising drive.
West Ham were dreadful throughout, their one minute of danger coming when Angelo Ogbonnas shot was obstructed by Everton keeper Jordan Pickford on as Silva was eventually able to celebrate a victory which delighted Goodison Park.
Actions was taken by silva together with his back against the wall – so warrants charge as Everton produced their very best performance of the year.
He dropped Sigurdsson, who could have no complaints after his form this season, pushed on Richarlison to the center and brought back Theo Walcott.
Silva re-introduced Davies into midfield and gave Iwobi the number 10 role in behind the striker.
The end result was an performance full of hard work, energy and imagination that should have reaped a victory margin than it did.
It was only West Ham goalkeeper Robertos excellence, calling on the assistance of the woodwork, that kept the score for the Hammers in reason and also producing a series of fine saves.
A raucous Goodison Park crowd that not wavered in its support for Silvas team always backed everton.
It takes more than a win to blow away the clouds over Silva in which one drawback ratchets up the pressure 29, because hes reached that point.
All of the sounds indicate he needs to follow up this with a win in Brighton second Saturday and then at home to Watford at The Carabao Cup.
This was exactly what he needed – a crowd-pleasing win where Everton reacted to the managers modifications and promptings.
West Ham must have their sights set on top six with Spurs and Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in stages of transition that is relative.
They have an inconsistency that threatens to purify those aspirations once more.
Yesthey could throw in the occasional exceptional success as they did against Manchester United – though that currency is devalued nowadays but they are ashamed in The Carabao Cup in League One Oxford United, shed at home to Crystal Palace subsequently deliver this shocking show at Goodison Park.
It might have been an act of grand larceny, if they had come near snatching a point .
As they lacked suggestions, energy and threat stood activities mirrored by most of his team.
In what has been a display lacking advantage and heart, Just keeper Roberto appeared.
They can not perform like this on many more occasions, if these hopes must be realised.
More to follow.
