How to Read & Calculate Sports Odds

What Do Fractional Formats Mean, & American, Decimal?

The amounts you see next to lines are known as odds. The odds, exhibited in either American, Decimal, or even Fractional formats, serve two functions:

They signal the implied probability of this outcome it is attached to.
They indicate how much money you’ll win if you bet on that specific event.
We have to be careful with all the probability though: bookmaker probabilities are affected by where cash is going, and also the amount of the probabilities of one occasion will always exceed 100 percent.

Bookmaker probabilities explain to you how much they’re charging to take your wager. You could also hear this called”the juice” or”cut” or”vig(orish).”
