After wearing huddersfield Town are fined # 50,000 from the Football Association.
The offending shirt has been worn as a member of a sponsorship deal with Paddy Power.
The bookmaker’s title was displayed in a sash across the club’s top in a friendly at Rochdale, together with all the FA charging Huddersfield last month.
Using the deal seeing the host is removed by the golf club in front of their kit, the top has been a spoof.
Huddersfield confessed that the charge and were warned in their behaviour by an independent commission.
The motto on the Championship side’s top broke FA law C.2(I), that states advertising should include one single area on the front of the shirt, not exceeding 250 square centimetres.
Paddy Power issued an announcement in that it compared the fine that was 50,000 to the fine given to Millwall over alleged racist.
The bookmaker did not respond to additional questions regarding the sponsorship.
From the FA reasons Martin Coy – July that refereed the favorable – said Huddersfield chairman Phil Hodgkinson had asked him to ban them.
“He said that my conclusion could potentially be great promotion and part of this marketing effort,” Coy said in an opinion statement.
“I was uneasy with this and believed it was not my place to prohibit the kit outright, but I informed them that I’d urge they followed the rules and advice in The FA.”
Coy was then told Huddersfield wouldn’t wear the top, particulars of which the club operations supervisor Ann Hough said were retained until the afternoon of the match in the Terriers board.
The FA cautioned the club that they could do it if the top has been wornout, but Hodgkinson said the host threatened legal action if they didn’t wear it.
“The host stated that it might be regarded as a material violation of this sponsorship agreement if the team did not put on the oversized logo,” he explained.
“In the conditions, when confronted with the danger of serious legal actions by the club’s main sponsor, and with no opportunity to look for outside legal counsel, we believed we had no choice except to wear the oversized logo in the game.”
Huddersfield said they did not think the FA’s kit regulations applied to friendlies, but the commission said it was a”blatant disregard” of those principles.
“The club’s motivations were financial, deliberately running the risk of becoming’charged’,” it stated.
“The choice not to use the sash shirt has been one the club needs to have left; it shouldn’t have tried to conceal behind the Warriors.
“Involving the referee in that manner was wrong and likewise not a trivial aggravating factor. The referee displayed commendable judgment in the face of such behavior.”
The FA advised the panel:”The choice to enlarge the advertisement in such an overt manner was irresponsible, especially in the current climate regarding gaming.”
The tops were sold, increasing over 30,000 for charity.
Paddy Power have consented similar prices to’unsponsor’ the tops of Macclesfield Town, Motherwell, Newport County and Southend United.
Of the 44 clubs in the Premier League and Championship, 27 have gambling sponsorship on their shirts.
“This reveals the hold a gambling company can have over a 111-year-old football club,” recovering gambling enthusiast James Grimes, who runs the charity The Big Measure, told BBC Sport.
“It seems the club dropped its principles over the matter and it’s sad for fans.”
Last month Huddersfield’s Championship rivals Derby procured”a record-breaking sponsorship” deal with their top host, online casino 32Red,”about the rear of” registering former England captain Wayne Rooney as a player-coach.
While no direct link was verified, Rooney’s group amount at Pride Park is going to be 32 when he joins in January.
