Jacques Vermeulen has also signed a deal with the Gallagher Premiership runners-up Exeter Chiefs of previous season.
The 24-year-old, who can play at flanker or lock, joins from South African Super Rugby side the Sharks.
Vermeulen is the next South African to combine Exeter this summer, after the catch of Jannes Kirsten, who will share a home.
“I’m very enthusiastic about the opportunity to come to a world class club such as Exeter Chiefs,” Vermeulen advised the Chiefs’ official website.
“Now , I feel just like a little boy again, really excited about the challenge and just being a part of the group.
“I’ve watched a lot of matches on TV and I watched Sandy Park is always complete on game days. The team itself plays very good rugby and I can not wait to be a part of the vibe of the team, studying the culture and doing my best to get the club.”
Vermeulen has arrived in Devon before the Chiefs’ Premiership Rugby Cup clash with Bath.
“Hopefully it will not take me too long to buy into the culture and after that, I just wish to give it 100 percent,” he said.
