Tributes have been paid to Miami Dolphins legend Jim Langer, who has died aged 71.
Langer was a vital part of the Dolphins’ 1972 staff who went an entire year undefeated and is seen as one of the centres in NFL history.
Hall of Fame member and the two-time Super Bowl winner died on Thursday, the Dolphins said.
“His gifts to this match will live forever,” Hall of Fame president David Baker stated.
Langer emerged in 128 games for the Dolphins from 1970 to 1979, like the Super Bowl victories of 1973 and 1972.
“He was the ultimate team-mate,” Baker added.
Langer recently gave an interview with BBC Sport about his exploits in that formidable 1972 outfit, speaking of this as”a very unique group. It turned into a family”.
In addition, he talked at the death of 2 of the team-mates from that age, Bob Kuechenberg and Nick Buoniconti, who both died earlier this season.
His career was finished by langer . “All our thoughts are with Jim Langer’s friends and family in this difficult time,” the franchise said.
“We’ve lost one of the biggest,” said South Dakota State University, for whom Langer starred prior to graduating and joining the Dolphins.
He’s survived by his wife, Linda, and four children.
