Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will start Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix from the back of the grid as a result of a punishment for excessive engine utilization.
Honda’ wills operate Spec Four’ engine in Monza, that will take him.
The Pierre Gasly of toro Rosso will even run the engine with the identical punishment.
Honda F1 technical manager Toyoharu Tanabe explained:”We think they could still race ardently on Sunday.”
The Spec Four motor was run by the 2 teams’ drivers, Red Bull’s Alexander Albon and the Daniil Kvyat of Toro Rosso, in the Grand Prix, although Albon reverted to some previous-spec engine to the race.
Tanabe added:”We collected useful data in Spa, which we’ve used to make changes to power-unit settings and calibration in prep for this particular race.
“We will attempt to maximise the capacity of both Spec Four and expect to get another positive result, keeping the momentum we gained from Spa.”
Honda refused to show whether the engine would be used by the drivers throughout the weekend at Monza.
Verstappen talked regarding the probability of taking a motor penalty at Monza in Belgium, and said that he was unconcerned about that.
“I think it could be all right to overtake,” he explained. “Even in case you start from the back I do not think that it’s a major deal.
“All of us know Ferrari is going to be really quick now, and if you begin in the back you probably won’t catch the top four. Everything behind that I think that it’s likely to catch up with.”
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner reported the operation of the Spec Four motor was”encouraging”, including:”Progress is being produced and [the engine] delivering what is expected.”
Red Bull have taken the motors at this stage because they want to make sure they are in the best possible place the race for Singapore after Italy, they expect to be one of their most aggressive of the year.
Honda can be decided to have as strong a showing in Japan in October at its house race.
