Richard Agar has been named as Leeds Rhinos’ head trainer for the 2020 year on a rolling 12-month contract.
After Leeds missing 10 of their first 14 Super League games because Dave Furner was sacked in May, agar has been in charge.
The France head coach has guided Leeds to seven wins in their subsequent 14 league matches along with the Rhinos are put to finish eighth.
Agar said:”I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on this group of players and helping them turn the corner this season.
“This is an outstanding golf club , both on and off the area, and it is our duty over the forthcoming decades to once again challenge for honours over a sustained period.”
Agar confirmed to Sky Sports that he held”positive” talks with club chief executive Gary Hetherington and manager of Baseball Kevin Sinfield after last Sunday’s win at London Broncos, which efficiently secured their Super League status.
After Agar’s appointment, Sinfield stated:”We are delighted to be able to affirm Richard as our new Head Coach.
“The manner in which he’s conducted this year, during very hard conditions, has shown us that he is the perfect person for the job.
“We are lucky to be able to call upon a few of the most experienced trainers in the game and importantly someone who knows our players also understands the potential for the group of young men.”
The 47-year-old began working as the helper of Furner when James Lowes abandoned the club for union in April and took on a temporary basis when the Australian was sacked.
The most important objective of agar was to avoid relegation, which has been accomplished with two games in hand.
