European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington has named Robert Karlsson because his very first vice-captain for the 2020 contest at Whistling Straits.
Karlsson represented Europe in Ryder Cups as a player, before returning to play in the defeat Valhalla two years after including in the record-breaking win in the K Club.
The Swede also functioned alongside Harrington as a portion of Thomas Bjorn’s backroom team for the 2018 competition, in which Europe ran out convincing 16.5-11.5 winners at Le Golf National.
Karlsson registered three factors from his seven matches for Europe and was beaten in two of them, forming an unbeaten partnership with Paul Casey during the 2006 contest and thrashing Justin Leonard from the singles at 2008.
The 49-year-old brings plenty of experience to the group that is European, won the European Tour’s Order of Merit and having listed 11 Tour victories from over 600 appearances.
Qualification for Europe Ryder Cup team will get underway this week together with the year-long effort running through the same occasion in September 2020, at the BMW PGA Championship.
The 2020 Ryder Cup subsequently takes place at which Europe will be bidding register only their fifth away success in the biennial contest and to keep the trophy.
