Zach Ertz: USWNT celebrations helps team chemistry

Even though Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz was at mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, his wife, Julie, was supporting the United States women’s national football team lay waste to Thailand, 13-0, in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
After Philly’s minicamp rests on Thursday, the Super Bowl winner Ertz will be linking the World Cup-winning midfielder Ertz in Gaul, reuniting American sports’ premier power couple.
“I’m excited. Obviously I wish every match was that stress-free going forward,” Ertz told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo of the United States’ opening rout. “It was quite simple to watch. But I am thrilled.

“I will be heading over this weekend in time for that second match on Sunday. I am just eager to go support my spouse. I’ve seen the hard work that she is put in those past four years return after a World Cup, after an Olympics. All the adversity she has confronted throughout these last couple years. Encourage as a husband and just very thrilled to go over there. … It is interesting to see her doing what she loves.”
Along with the rest of the World Cup-watching planet, the American-footballing Ertz also had an impression on the USWNT’s contentious goal parties as its direct of this overmatched Thai team climbed out of control. Some commentators argued that the U.S. women showed poor sportsmanship in showing up Thailand by observing their late goals with such glee and imagination.
Ertz was having none of that line of thinking, citing the Eagles’ Super Bowl run in 2017 as an illustration of the positive usage and effect of group parties.
“I have a lot of thoughts. I heard it. I read it about,” Ertz informed Garafolo. “First thought is the first tiebreaker at the World Cup group stage is the goal differential and so they would be sick to their stomach if they took their foot of the gas and for some reason ended second in the group based off target differential.
“The next, which is probably is the very underlining thing, once you’re on a fantastic team the best way to build team chemistry is seeing others as happy for the success as they are because of their own. And viewing the girls celebrate they had been to other people’s success actually I believed was critical for them long term. Because you see how near these girls were becoming, these girls were getting.
“I think you watched it a couple of years back with us when we were celebrating. We were just building that team chemistry since everyone was bonding through those minutes. Everybody was seeing just how happy everybody was for another individual’s success. I think that actually speaks volumes about the camaraderie and team chemistry. So I had no problem with it obviously. I was really for this.”
En route to winning Super Bowl LII during the 2017 season, the Eagles were the most prominent of teams using the NFL’s relaxed party principles. Philly was famous for its coordinated post-touchdown antics, such as acting as individual bowling pins, miming a house run, flapping together in a V formation and doing some variant of the Electric Slide. The latter celly was awarded in the 2018 NFL Honors since the Celebration of the Year. 1 night later, the Eagles won the Super Bowl.
Correlation does not mean causation, but it’s very clear and evident in this case that parties, at least at the NFL, lead directly to Super Bowl titles. It is science.
The probable message from 1 Ertz to another if they meet in France ahead of the USWNT’s match against Chile on Sunday? Celebrate like no one’s watching.
